Apple yesterday unleashed the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as its first dust and water resistant iPhones, thanks to the IP67 certification. This means they are 100 percent resistant to dust and should survive being submerged under a metre of water for up to 30 minutes. The idea isn’t to take them swimming, but they can survive accidental drops in pools, sinks, and the shower, and the odd downpour. However, Apple mentions that splash, water and dust resistance are not permanent as conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of wear and tear. Also, Apple won’t cover liquid damage on the new iPhones under the warranty, so don’t count on the brand to replace them at no charge.
“iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water and dust resistant, and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage is not covered under warranty,” mentions the product page on Apple’s website for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
You may be happy that Apple finally made the new iPhones dust and water resistant. However, water damages not being covered under warranty is a point you should keep in mind while taking your iPhone 7 or 7 Plus into a pool – we definitely don’t recommend taking photos with them underwater. As for the availability, the new iPhone duo will go on sale in India on October 7th for a starting price of lowest rate.

Apart from the hardware, another notable finding by iFixit was about what Apple placed in iPhone 7 Plus where the 3.5mm headphone jack used to be in the earlier models. The freed space is now occupied by a barometric vent and the Taptic Engine for the new pressure-sensitive Home button. For those unaware, the barometer sensor in a phone measures atmospheric pressure. So, as you may have noticed, the new iPhones have speaker grilles on each side of the Lightning connector, but there’s still only a single speaker on the right side.
